GIMA – INTERMUNICIPAL GINCANA FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

The idea of creating GIMA – Intermunicipal Gymkhana for the Environment came after, talking to some children who lived on the farm, we realized that they were being victims of bullying. They went to school in the city and were discriminated against by children who lived in the Urban Zone.

To improve the integration between them, we created GIMA that was born as a contest that promoted various activities that had citizenship, respect and environmental education as a backdrop.

In its first edition in 2008, about 120 children from schools in the cities of Cristais Paulista and Ribeirão Corrente participated. Over the years, GIMA has grown and encompassed more municipalities in the region.

In 2019, the contest went through a restructuring. Today GIMA is a cultural fair with a duration of four days, which includes sports and leisure activities, theatrical and dance performances, storytelling, book fair, etc.

In its 13 years of existence, GIMA has raised the awareness of more than 9,000 children.

For the first time, in 2020, the contest cannot be held due to the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, the organizers then decided to create a new version of the contest: GIMA Digital.

Through this new program, more than 120 cell phones were distributed to schools in the municipalities of Cristais Paulista, Ribeirão Corrente and Pedregulho, so that the phones were given to the most needy students and who were unable to follow the classes that were taught through the Internet.

EXPANDING HORIZONS

The Ampliando Horizontes program was created with the objective of teaching and training Labareda employees. In the early 2000s, while I was taking the Total Quality course promoted by Sebrae, I wanted to transmit to our employees what I was learning. I then organized groups so that I could teach with the knowledge acquired. That was when I realized that many people there could not understand what I was writing. They were illiterate or had very little study, enough to write only their names.

To help them, we decided to turn a farmhouse into a school. We hired two teachers and started offering free classes for those who wanted to learn more. As soon as classes started, not only did employees go to school. They also took their families, which ended up causing the project to be expanded.

Today, almost 20 years later, Ampliando Horizonte continues to function, but has undergone some adaptations. Today he offers tutoring classes for children on the farm and also extracurricular activities, mainly related to the cultural area.
